Filmmakers showcase local history in new documentary on Carbondale UFO sighting

A decades-old mystery is coming back to life in Carbondale, where a new documentary is revisiting one of the most talked-about UFO sightings in NEPA history. The film, Fire in the Pond, just started production, and it’s already bringing renewed attention to the 1974 sighting that put Carbondale on the paranormal map.

For decades, the Carbondale UFO sighting has been debated. What really fell into the silt pond that night in 1974? The new film Fire in the Pond is exploring that question, mixing documentary and narrative storytelling to bring the legend back to life.

Paranormal researcher and documentarian Heather Taddy is leading the investigation and says not all the evidence adds up.

“The eyewitness accounts aren’t matching what was reported in the police documents. Just trying to match things up and just to really get to the bottom of what happened here," said Taddy.
